I'm trying to find a Grammostola Aureostrata (caco) somewhere online. I'm looking for one that won't cost me like a million bucks (more like i want one that isn't over like $100). I'm not sure if this is even possible. The only ones i've been able to find are from Ken the bug guy. His are only an inch long though so i'm not sure i want to take on one of those. I haven't seen any others.

Is it okay for a beginner to start with a 1 inch spider or should I try to find a more mature one somewhere? Are there any other ones out there?

I higly recommend starting with a sling. I have 17 Grammostola aureostriata slings and they are hardy and fast growing compared to others in this genus. Ken the Bug Guy has great reviews, so you found an online dealer you can buy from with confidence.

Instead of spending $100 on an adult, spend a fraction of that on a sling and grow your own adult. It will have more meaning to you when you go through the entire hobby experience. Get a few of them and maybe you can end up with a female and a male and someday breed your own. :D

Spend the money , get something you can play with now . You can always get a few slings later . I noticed Stevo73 has a 4" female for $75 you might want to contact him . Feed my Pulchra for the first time yesterday , glad I got something with size .

If you want an older one search the "for sale" section here on arachnoboards. Search back in time. Breeders have lots of T's that they don't list but that they would be willing to sell. Email a few who have offered older sexed females in the past if you can't find one for sale now. That's what I did and I got my 6 inch Chaco for $60 just a while back. Good transaction. The big website sellers are reliable but they tend only to have slings.

By the way, why is everyone calling them "Cacos" lately? Is that like some alternate spelling? The word is Chaco.

CHaco Chaco Chaco. Better yet, G aureostriata. G aureo for short.

There are deals to be found but they're not going to be THAT cheap. Your talking about an animal that's at least 4 years old. They don't grow that quickly, only quickly when compared to others within the genus. Nobody's going to raise a spider for several years and then turn around and sell it for $20. Sorry buddy.

chaco

I have a 4" male I'll sell for $45 shipped. :)
Chaco males can live a good long time still if cared for well. I have one thats 9 years old amazingly. Did I accidently post it as not chaco somewhere? Odd. :) Well for a beginner I believe chacos are definately the best sling or adult really.

Last time I talked to him, Dean at NWInverts, he had a 2.5" female for $50. That's a good deal to get the guarantee of having a female. I would check with him if you want a female at a good price.
