I have some black widows I have had since they were born. Two males look mature. Not to big but both have their boxing gloves now. I have two females, black with the red hour glass....they are not to big either...maybe 3/4 inch leg span. I was wondering if I should wait to see if the females molt once more be fore I thy and mate them.

well, you could always try! personally, i might wait another molt to breed, but i just like to breed em big! the danger in that though, is that the males might die before the female molts again. you might have some luck, i have bred them pretty small before, i just prefer not to.

If worse comes to worse just, PM and I'll send you some gravid females. They live here by the thousands, of course you would have to pay for shipping.

What specie?

Males will have palps early but final molt will/should produce a slimmed down boy with loaded palps ..no longer translucent.

Pics of both sexes would probably help here. ;) Clear pic underside of female might prove very helpful also. If she retaining markings on her abdomen, pic showing those markings could also be a good clue.

Test runs usually work out. Feed the female and let her settle into her meal for a spell. Introduce the male to her web ...avoid just dropping him in. ;) He will react (stereotypically) in either of 2 ways ...careful avoidance/hide and live OR he will start his dance. If he starts the mating process and she is not ready for whatever reason, she will chase him off to the point where he will usually give up. Though, chasing is usually a big part of successful mating ..so dont panic right away.
Most males do well against females playing tag. Size of containment, structure, web size/configuration and age of both the female and male are big factors when it comes to cohabitation. Ive had males live out long lives with females. In fact they seem to live longest when maturing alongside a maturing female ...if they dont get themselves killed that is.
