This movie is one of the many catalysts that eventually brought me into the T keeping hobby. While it didn't help the reputation of spiders, for me, it made me want to give spiders a closer look than ever. My early teenage years were basically spent watching animal documentaries and reading various books. I have it on DVD, along with select other spider-related films, I watch it every once in a while. Great movie that you don't take seriously and just enjoy the ride.

To answer your question concerning the availability of Delena cancerides, the answer is unfortunately no. My understanding is to avoid having them escaping by accident and becoming a potential invasive species. They would definitely be competing for food with native species and cause an ecological imbalance.

Awwww... that sucks man! Really? Those can be invasive?? Or is this one of those situations where the govt is concerned about piranhas becoming invasive?? When in fact they're only invasive during certain seasons?
Jeez.. too bad.. they look very cool. Was hoping they could be avail. At first i thought they were juvenile T's.

Oooo the Delena cancerides is pretty "creepy" looking. Even as a T keeper I found certain spiders to look creepy but I think being exposed to them by seeing them kept by keepers that keep both I have gotten over it a lot more.

I was thinking of rewatching the movie but I did not find it at the time. I ended up watching "8 Legged Freaks". Movies and video games really villainize the spider(s). There is even a recent video game about burning spiders. I would really like if people could be proactive in actually showcasing the beauty and show appreciation for them instead of using them as a cheap trope.

Well 1990 has a cell phone, Dyna TAC 8, but no texting yet so it can only call.

This movie and Eight Legged Freaks were very largely responsible for getting me obsessed with spiders as a child. Ah, memories....

They said that spiders smelled or something tho? I was weirded out by that fact. I always liked the Spiderfarm dude at the beginning.

The perfume messed with the big spider or something, though I don't remember exactly why; It's been a long time since I've watched it and I'm not gonna argue campy movie logic. The spiders also mutated from toxic waste to giant sizes, made sounds, and vocalized to a point some practically spoke, so the whole perfume thing was far from what bothered me the most in terms of realism lmao.

Was the dislike a misclick, or does the pseudoscience bug you that much? :hurting:
