So I'm thinking of entering this field. I'd be changing my major from pre-vet to this. What careers are available to one with this degree?

Where are you enrolled? Do they have an 'Arachnology' major?

Since I see your in Arlington, are you at UTA?

If so, consider contacting Chris Hamilton (hamfoto here on AB)... he is pursuing his Ph.D. there and working with theraphosids.

If you haven't done so already, join the AAS and check out THIS PAGE.

You can get your Bachelor's degree in a wide number of fields with the intent to pursue Arachnology at the graduate level.

Good luck.

There aren't many "arachnology" degrees or opportunities out there to focus just on arachnids...BUT what you can do is find an area of Biology (Evolution, Ecology, Behavior, etc...) and follow that path while focusing on theraphosids or whatever organism you want...while working on the evolutionary or ecological theory/theories you are interested in.

And there are plenty of opportunities to do that here at UTA...

You'll probably have to major in entomology...as part of the course requirements you'll most likely to have courses in araneology, acarology, etc. The joke is that we, as entomologist study everything smaller than a bread box.
