Aquarium filter not working!

Ok so today I just bought a TOM Mini Internal Filter and installed it in my KK that I have set up for a bluegill and crayfish. I read the instructions, placed the filter in the tank, and plugged it in.

Nothing is happening.

The KK shakes when it's plugged in so it's "trying" to run, but no water is comingout the top like it's supposed to.

Idk if it's supposed to be immediate, but in my experience with filters, it usually starts filtering right away. If anyone can offer any explanation as to why this isn't working, please do so.

What do you mean?

I was just about to say to disregard this post. I turned it on its side to try to fill it with water and water started being filtered. After letting it run that way a little, I moved it into its upright position and it's now working!
