Hi. I am new to this hobby with my first and so far only T a G. rosea. My 18 yr. old son has grown interested and is very interested in the A. seemanni. He loves the look of this spider and doesn't feel the need he must own a spider he can hold if the spider is not receptive to that. However,if been reading that these are an escapist T. Is this very common for them or under only certain conditions. Also is there another black and white T that may be better suited for him. I know you all know your stuff and there is someone out there that can help us. Thanks!

It's been a while since I've had one of this species but any spider can escape if not properly secured. The only escapees I've ever had were due to improper closing of the enclosure after feeding or a sling that squeezed through a ventilation hole I thought was smaller than the T's abdomen. If you are concerned, just start out with an enclosure that closes securely and you shouldn't have a problem. Enjoy the new spider!!

Thanks, that is a bit more reassuring. I had read on the web that this species will actually chew the silicone off of tanks and chew out metal meshing. I don't like or use mesh since I think it's too risky for their legs if they get caught, but the chewing off the silicone had me going...EEEKKK...I can't have a loose spider in the house with the 4 dogs and the cat we have! Someone please tell me this has happened only once and on another planet.

Only T i have had escape without being transfered is a 1/2 inch h.mac. which was my own stupidity. Thats what usually causes escapees is stupidity.

If he is going for the colors you could look at Acanthoscurria Geniculata.

As far as escaping just buy something with a locking lid, and always make sure it is completely closed.

That makes me feel alot better about this particular T in the future. As it is I just ordered him a 3" B.vagans (the one I wanted :() for his Bday on the 15th. He said he liked those too. Do you think my 'totally obvious' Q's about what he thought about them tipped him off about what he's getting? I ordered from Ken the Bug Guy because I heard great things.

kripp keeper, thanks for the heads up on the Acanthoscurria geniculata. I'll keep that one in mind as well for a future T for him. He's avery serious unflamboyant fellow so he may just opt to be a 1 T man but who knows, eh?
