Wow! I just found pictures of this gorgeous spider on Rick West's site. Are these available in the pet trade yet? I didn't realize Aphonos got those kind of colors! The female reminds me of C. cyaneopubescens and the male is reminiscent of A. versicolor!

Here are the pics:

Hmm, I just looked on John Hoke's species list and this one is not on it... :?

I don't think these have ever been in the trade, and wont be until someone steals some from Mexico.

Indeed.

Of course, if someone were to steal a few from Mexico and establish a breeding programme...... ;)

But that won't happen, people would rather just rip adult after adult out of the wild.

hi

my cusin might be in that field since he did bring a speicies from the region of michuoacan(spelling) it was a species I never seen before it had really orange knees not like a a brachy but really orange like extreme orange well any ways he might be able to help even though its a little risky.

John Hoke only lists species that have been in the pet trade so if it's not there, it's a reasonable bet it's not now nor ever has been available in the trade.

Although, I'm not so sure I see the fuss, it looks like a C. cyanopubescens to me - if that's what you want in a T, it's out there already.

Hi Kelly, I talked to SafteyPinup a few months ago about this specie and she told me they are available every once in a while, she says ya just have to watch lists everywhere. I believe Art Cerda told me they're around once in a while.

They definatley need to be in the trade though...sweet looking T:D

i have to agree with CM on this one --

while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, i just don't see it.

then again, i'm not a big C.cyaneo fan, so go figure (right SHD??!) .. just too many colours for me on 1 T ;)

Kelly, are you thinking of tracking this sucker down for your collection? Good luck if you do!!!

peace

I don't think it's the number of colors so much as it is the particular colors. The contrast of metallic green & blue with pumpkin orange is just far too garrish for my tastes. I've got one that I got as a sling (which are very cool looking, though) but when it goes, it goes. It's one species I'll never replace in the collection.

I just don't know about you! "Garrish?" I think the coloration is one reason people often refer to tarantulas as "nature's jewelry." I love seeing a tarantula as colorful as the GBB and I certainly wouldn't mind one of these unusual aphonopelmas in my collection. I think one of the best ways to get arachnophobes "hooked" into our hobby, is to show them these really colorful critters that don't fall into black/brown category they are so used to seeing. Seeing them in these rainbow colors makes them look less scary because they don't look quite as real.

Then again, we each have our own tastes in Ts. Some people want VICIOUS, some want temperament, some want color, others want size....and then there are some of us who want a little bit of EVERYTHING! No collection is complete without a few of the rainbow beauties mother nature created for us to enjoy and admire. :)

I'm going to have to come to CM's defense on this one. I like the GBB and I like the Aphonopelma species in the photos, but they are rather garrish. Would you wear colors like that together? Excluding members of the "red hat society", I don't think there will be too many people sporting those colors this fall.

The only thing I hate more than defending CM is coming off as some kind of fashion queen.:D

No, I wouldn't wear those colors, but what a spider chooses to wear (or is actually born to wear) is its own business. It doesn't make it any less stunning. I'll take rainbows over plain old black or brown any day of the week. ;)

On the other hand, if you look at it from an artistic point of view rather than a "clothing fashion" you'll notice that The Man Upstairs chose to use complimentary colors for the most part as that shade of "red" and that shade of "green" are across from each other on a color wheel. (Now I get to put my 2-D design skills to work, yay!) ;)

You make a good point. As I said before, I like the colors, but I think "garish" fits.

I just can't see how anyone can not like greenbottles coloration but I guess to each their own.
