these seem oddly similar to paloma. paloma is much more aggressive and slow moving. hualapai is a flighty thing! other than that, they look very similar. i do see slight differences, but do you think this validates them as different?? here are some pics of hualapai for those who are interested

here are a couple pics of paloma. do you guys see any difference between them at all??

time will tell ;)

The hualapai sort of looks like a mini A anax but the paloma reminds me of the Aphonopelma sp "huachua" i recently got fro NW Inverts.

Those coloration differences could be chalked up to differences in molt cycle though, i suppose.

The hauchua I have hasn't ever thrown a frontal threat display but does stick her butt in the air all the time. Very jumpy and quick, too.

the colorations between the 2 have nothing to do with moult cycles. these are 2 different species, but im just wondering if anyone else can see any differences between the 2. you would be VERY SURPRISED at the coloration these little guys moult out as. the huachuca thing is a larger species that comes from a completely different part of the state than these guys. these are the smallest of the small aphonopalmas

So those are adults huh? I didn't realize aphonopelmas got much smaller than huachua's which i've been told mature at about 2.5".

Is anybody (you, perhaps?) breeding these or are they just wc at this point? I've been getting more interested in the teeny-tiny t's lately. One can only have so many 8"-10" t's in one room...

That huachua had a pretty dramatic color change when it molted a few weeks ago. It went from brown on brown to almost blue/grey with a little red urty patch.

Nice photos and ADORABLE T's, Josh. These are the dwarfs you told me about, no? What is their mature size?

As for differences, the first, (haulapai?) seems more metallic on the carapace and more gold-ish. The other looks more gray and dull. Just hazarding a guess here.

I'm definitely going to be wanting one of these little cuties! I like the natural dirt and desert sand you have them on.

Josh,

Besides carapace coloration, the best way to differentiate between the two would be scopula (divided/full) on metatarsus IV, and leg segment length ratios. The scopula pad on metatarsus IV is one of the main differences between A. mojave and A. joshua.

Josh, I'm not sure if i have a before pic or not. Mine molted within days of receiving it and i can't recall if i took any pics. I certainly have an after though. I'll have a look this evening when i get home.

i am very aware of this between joshua and mojave. there are also differences between setae on the abdomen, the size and visibility of the urticating patch, and over all size. the mature males are very different from what i hear as well. ive never seen mature males however.

yes there is a coloration difference between hualapai and paloma, but there are many others as well. i am curious if anyone else can see them. i need to do a side by side pic of the 2.
