I caught this T the other night while looking for scorpions. I think its a A.anax but wanted to see what others thought it might be.

it takes an expert to tell them apart by a picture typically the A.Anax is darker than the A.Hentzis that I catch all the time up here near by Dallas. By the pic alone I couldn't tell you one way or another but considering your location in South Texas I would say your assumption is correct and that your boy here is an A.Anax aka texas tan tarantula![]()
hey also have you see any of the Rio Grande Reds? I have a friend that lives down near yall trying to catch me one, Im kinda jelly we only have 2 types of tarantula in our area rather than the like 5 types south Texas has.
DLS was closed to 3 inches. I did not see any tibial hooks.Caraspace is darker than my Hentzis.Do you have a picture of the front pedipalps? I do not see tibial hooks in your picture.
What is the DLS leg span? The male Hentzis get darker after they mature but usually have a copper gold caraspace. If its not male then it's really dark and I would vote Aphonopelma anax.
I'm even Jellier! We don't have any native tarantulas in Canadait takes an expert to tell them apart by a picture typically the A.Anax is darker than the A.Hentzis that I catch all the time up here near by Dallas. Besides this one I kept I have seen three additional MMs in the last two weeks but still looking for the female.I'm even Jellier! We don't have any native tarantulas in Canada![]()
Man, That's awesome.. I couldn't imagine leaving my front door and just seeing a tarantula roaming around. A "big" spider around here would be one with the leg span of a quarter.Besides this one I kept I have seen three additional MMs in the last two weeks but still looking for the female.
