I have seen a few around, none as of late. but I would like to try to keep one. I don't really know anything about them. I don't even know if that is the correct name.

thanks for any information.

tegeneria?

I'm not sure where you're from, which I think is ctitical info for us round' here. Anyways, I had the same query a few months ago when I went to my folks house in seattle and thought i'd go to the basement and catch a spider or two. 3 days later, after I had turned all things upside down, lifted all surfaces, and even laid out damp washcloths overnight to attract them,,,,,nothing. Just a few cellar spiders and one giant dead hobo male (SO GROSS but oh how i wish it were alive). I reluctantly went outside and found the motherload of wierd creatures.
I remember growing up all I had to do was go downstairs, lift up a bowl, rag, anything and a gnarly biggen' would go running. I think the old black house spiders that we're used to (the ones on your walls that wouldnt die when mom whacked them with a broom :embarrassed: ), were probably tegeneria domestica or gigantea, common. However I found out that since Tegeneria Agrestis has become so comfortable in america, often it is the sole survivor in the fight for who gets to terrorize innocent laundry-doers and the like. In the pacific Northwest, anyways.

I also read that when people bug-bomb their house, the population of hobo's may likely triple due to the sudden disappearance of it's competitors. Tegeneria Agrestis is the only big ol' house spider I can find in a basement in north seattle anymore, it seemed like everything else was gone. And they're not the same as the ones from back in the day, I believe hobo's can't climb worth a darn. ;P

I'd like to find out what exactly the old' freaky mama's were just for fun anyways, but my guess is tegeneria G or D. Thanks

if your referering to hibernalis kulcunis [spelling] Which is often mistaken for a velvet agressive black widow Look for what appear to be deteriated funnels of webbing which is what they make to live in simmiliar to a trap door without the trap, they have pretty good eye shines at night and can be lured with grass.. I've found them from holes in the ground to between branches close together in trees..I'd mark them as fiesty opertunists.
