Anyone know about getting slings & such in Australia?

I was just wondering about buying slings & spiders in Australia & if there are any for beginners?

I know nothing about getting Ts in Australia, but I do know that slings can be more challenging to care for than adult spiders, but can also be much more rewarding. Australian species are generally a little temperamental from what I know, but I'm no expert on those. Do lots of research of course and good luck

I thought they would be a little harder, I'm considering getting a goliath bird eating spider for $60 but I thought slings could me more educational watching then grow & such

Slings are amazing to watch and honestly they're kinda cute. "Goliath bird eater" usually refers to Theraphosa blondi, a somewhat more difficult tarantula to care for because of it's strict humidity requirements. Is this your first tarantula?

Unfortunately I believe it is illegal to keep any non-native tarantulas where you are from. Aussie tarantulas are not normally recommended for your first spider but with the proper research and respect for the animal I'm sure you will be fine. There are plenty of Aussie keepers on here that I'm sure will point you in the right direction. - Chad

This is my first T indeed I've wanted one for about a year & a half & can only find a few species for sale. I want a wolf spider pretty bad but haven't been able to come by one at all, there was also the option of a trap door but then I'd see it for 0.7 seconds when it has it's feed which doesn't appeal to me. I just want a larger spider or sling that does webs & such seems to be harder then I thought to come across.

You might find it impossible to find non native ones, Australia is pretty stiff with potentialy invasive species, they had the worst of it with the cane toads and cats... but there are sp that are a bit less of a challenge : )

We have some cool animals but I wish we could import make people so much happier! All I wanted was a dose hair! They seem so chill & happy.

Shouldnt be too hard to find t's for sale at this time of the year, plenty of slings around. Most aussie species are dead easy, i dont recomend any paticular species. Just pick one you like and go for it. Selenotypus and Selenotholus how ever do hide alot more than phlogius

Maybe you could try beginning with a wolf spider like Lycosa bicolor and then move up to a tarantula.

I don't think it is alowed,I'm in Australia and have a selenocosmia crassipes,Phlogius crassipes (Kuttabul) and a selenotypus plumipes (featherleg) which are native,I asked the lady I bought them off if they sell king baboon or rosies etc and she said no it's illegal to bring them from other countrys.

Yeah that was my problem to, I suppose this importing laws are for the best but.

The spider he is talking about is Phlogius sp "Goliath" , native to the cape york reigon of Queensland. They are a Phlogius so the dont hide as much as the other genera tend to, easy to keep and possibly the largest species in australia

Cant wait until the down under opens up for imports granted you can get most of the same stuff from the solomon islands but id love to pick up a sydney funnel web
