My favorite monitor species!

This is my male BlackRoughNeck monitor, War.
War is 5 feet long, 14 pounds...for those that will ask the inevitable "how big is he?". And no, I do not consider him tame. He just tolerates me well.
I love him to bits.
In the back is my Arachnorack, its not built (or full) the way I want it yet...

He is a big wildcaught animal I got from someone who imported him. If you think he looks mean, well...you should hear him hiss! Very throaty and loud.

The claws are like large hooks. I remove just the tips, he can still climb, but doesn't slice flesh as easily. Win-win for both of us.

I've seen a photo of that guy before, maybe kingsnake? He's quite the monster. I've never had one, but I've always felt they were very overlooked by monitor fans. I love how birdlike they are. How big was he when he was imported?

yes, it may have been KS...mostly I post on varanus, though.

He was a few inches shorter when I got him, he had been recently imported. I have no idea on the age, but I suspect he is older, given his size.
He's really very sweet, but then, I think all monitors are...

I have 2 1.5 footers that were WC. I love these guys, they have great personality. They are by far my favorite animals. Lots of hissing when I go to pick them up, but never once have they tried to bite me. These are just the greatest pets ever!
