Hey guys,
I live in Europe and am trying to find out a bit more about the Goliath Bird eating spider (Theraphosa blondi). Are there any European breeders here?

Do the breeders have to be in Europe to answer ur Q? There are quite a few T. blondi breeders here that might be able to help.

My male and female blondi are both in premolt. if my male becomes mature after the molt then i am going to start breeding them. I plan on giving out some free slings to some of my buddies on the boards, if everything works out, though the jestation period is about a year.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Yes they have to be European, unless someone in the states can ship some over here?

Hi,

I'm from Paris France.

I bred once two years ago Theraphosa Blondi. I had 115 slings all OK.

At the moment, my femelle (the same as two years ago) keeps another egg sac. The mating was in october 2004.
The first time, the gestation period was 3 months (it was in summer, so a little bit quicker).

The first time, I let the cocoon with the female during 7 weeks, then I took out the cocoon and seperate it in two : half larves was put in an incubator, the other half was let in the cocoon and replaced with the female.

A few weeks later (5 or 6), the female opened the cocoon and made a web (like a tent) and the larves molt on it. This first molt occured one week before the molt of the larves in the incubator and all larves succeeded in molt.
The female is very very attentive with the slings during all this period and later on : I let them with the female one more month without any problem before separating them finally (risk of canibalism between the slings more than by the female).

The mating usually occurs easily if the female has been feeded correctly. Don't let the male with the female more that the time of the mating. I recommend to confirm the mating one more time.

The breeding is very interesting to observ in general due to the size of the animal and the kind of various webs that are created (before the cocon : igloo web, after for the molt of the slings).

You should have probably put this in the classifieds. You will get a better response there.
