anyone an expert on rhinoceros beetles particular D.tityus? My beetle is not doing well help!

D.Tityus male emerging too early what to do?

I am upset. I found these on a golf course in southern maryland in a tree stump that was ground up by a stump grinder last february (I don't know how they managed to survive) They then pupated this summer and I assumed they would overwinter and hatch in the spring. However they are hatching in Decmber and are moving around (not good).

  • Should I feed it?
  • Should I try to "fish" it out of its cage/transfer it into another feeding cage? (problem is their is a dormant female next to it I don't want to disturb)
  • what do I do?
  • Put it in my cold garage? (I need it cold so it hybernates but I don't want to kill it/freeze it. It is currently in my basement 60 degrees F)

Aug 1st. 2023: Adults form but exoskeleton not hardened (reddish exoskeleton

Aug 9th 2023: Adult exoskeleton hardened but still dormant. (olive green exoskeleton).

November 26th 2023 Male emerged moving around/built a tunnel (not good)

It's not dead. I saw him on the moment that was posted. He was reading this thread, not sure what happened after that. Sorry buddy. Sometimes we aren't able to answer all the questions and help everybody. Just keep at it, somebody else might wander in within a couple days and they might be able to help.

I wish I could form instant conclusions like that, I could pick the lottery numbers no problem !!
