Hey everyone I have been doing combing through the different Poci breeding threads along with the p. metallica breeding thread. On the P. metallica threads it seams that some people actually had success keeping them in the high 70s and lower 70s at night along with flooding simulation. I was wondering if the seasons in cali would effect their breeding cycle or as long as i can raise the temp and flood the cage will surfice. I was reading Robc's write up and Swifts write up and im assuming these are a good way to start.

I was also reading Invertfix's P. miranda thread and some people were briefly talking about P. metallica breading. Are there any other resources anyone can link to send me in the right direction.

Yes, the biggest trick is getting a mature female and mature male at the same time.

If you haven't used the search function on the site yet give it a try, this is not a new topic and you will find a wealth of knowledge here with a little bit of looking.

Thanks for the advice, I already have a female but still waiting on the male to mature and I've actually used the search function. I typed in p. metallica breeding and it took me too alot of for sale stuff, for example MM P. metallica for sale. I did take me to the breeding section of P metallica but i was looking for more focused questions; similar to a few that i disclosed above. Some people had success with upper 70s and some had success with mid 80s, I just wanna know if any one had direct experience or maybe an optimal temp for P. metallica in general.

I think you may have used a site wide search, try specifically searching the tarantula discussion subforum and the breeding reports subforum.

Cheers

best advice i can give you is....good luck...i had no luck with them this year...female didnt hurt the male at all..but she is like a pet slab, and didnt pay him no attention. i had him in multiple times, until i gave up....i have also heard from alot of people that they have had no luck with them this year too...

Anyone think it could be an age thing? Maybe they don't mature until later compared to other pokies (80% of max size vs 60% for example). I've also read a post in which someone hypothesized that P subfusca may only lay a successful sac every other year. Could that be another possibility?

even if they were to only lay a successful sac every other year, you would imagine that they would still breed...my girl has never been bred, and is six inches...

The key might be replicating native seasons. That's what I'm doing currently, even though my male is still immature. I've also read a breeding report somewhere where somene was successful doing this (though one of the females molted out when she started the "rainy season"). I'll post it here if I find it again. I've also heard there is an informative breeding report in a BTS article.

Despite not really having any info on breeding, here is a good read.

Nice thanks again guys for the useful info. I have also read that p. metallica also may like it in the high 70s rather then the low 80s. It's just kinda hard to sift through opinion and what actually works, some resources are inconsistent with others. I guess when the time comes ill have to do trial and error haha. Least i know i got 2 females that I can try different seasonal temperatures.
