Hello! As the title says I'm a mantis keepers who's had quite a few mantises and I am now ready for an immediate species. Any recommendations?
I assume you mean intermediate. An intermediate species would be Pseudoxyops, Orthodera, Miomantis, Deroplatys, all super cool species. Out of curiosity, what species have you kept exactly?Hello! Orchids are by no means intermediate.Do you mean more colors or harder to care for. I always recommend flower or orchid mantis but you might have worked with these.
Nope, keep a few more beginner species like H. membranacea, Sphodromantis, and Ghosts and you’ll be set.Haha sorry guys auto correct screwed me over. What I meant is an intermediate species that could pick up for a reasonable price and that is relatively interesting to look at. I have cared for the spiny flower, the Chinese, and the Indian flower mantis. Would this make me good enough to get an intermediate species? I'm a bit new to mantis keeping but I've kept a few of them. My only real gripe with them is that they die out so quickly. Such a shame.
I see. Thank you for the guidance! Unrelated but which species of mantises are the most communal? I was thinking about this due to some of my friends talking about there m. balfouri colonies and I was curious if there were any equivalents in the mantis family.Nope, keep a few more beginner species like H. membranacea, Sphodromantis, and Ghosts and you’ll be set.
LOL. Auto correct is the worst. With the immediate species. You have to get them ASAP.
No mantis is truly communal, there is always a good risk of cannibalism. I recommend against communals of any kind because they can also disturb one another while molting.I see.
