They will go for extremly long periods without feeding sometimes even beyond a year. They wont like being confined and will constantly be looking for a way out. I don't know if your planning on catching venomous or non venomous either way good luck

Depending species and state law it may be illegal to possess the snake, up in MA catch a black rat snake or eastern hognose just to name a couple is punishable with a fine upto $10,000.00 and possible jail time.

I have had only wild caught snakes exept for the E. hognose that I ust got today. I think they make great pets. Infact after a couple weeks they normally calm down and are just as good as any CB snake I have been around. The hard part is finding what they prefer to eat and switching them to pre-killed food. If you like to feed pre-killed that is. I have kept garter snakes in the past that would not eat anything but live goldfish and worms. It all really depends on the snake.

Cons to w/c... feeding issues... parasites... possible legal repercussions if the animals is CITES listed etc.

Eliminating all of that, one my my wc P regius' is my favorite of my crew of snakes. He's docile, a great eater (although that took some serious work) and somehow seems to be appreciative of the fact that we cleared up his RI and internal and external parasites. That's probably giving him a lot more credit for conceptualization and emotion that most would be inclined to bestow, but every who meets him sees it :-D

If you are serious about your collection (If you have one) I would not suggest putting anything wild caught in the same room as the others. Wild caught species are actually more work than they are worth. With all the possible vet bills, medications and bites to your hands, arms and face..it just seams more logical to guy a worthy C.B. snake.

I would just like to ask a question, If you cannot afford to buy a C.B. snake then how would you supply an adequate supply of food or medicine for a W.C. snake?

What state do you live in? Like everyone pointed out, it is more than likely there are state protected laws to keeping W.C. species. Also taking Wild snakes out of the wild will induce the extinction of that sertain species ( I know, but if you dont reserve the wild it will dissapear)

I do have the money to buy CB snakes, but... how can i sya this... I can't really use it to buy the snakes =\
Main reason I want a WC snake is to get used to the handling and nature part of it (I plan to be a herpetologist =S )
I live in Texas

Well then you should be part of a capture and release program designed to identify the species and safely return it to its proper home...Kinda like Jeff Corwin

External parasites are easier than internal (imho)... a vet visit is the easiest unless you have the time and ability to purchase, measure acurately, and dispense via injection or ingestion the internal parasite treatment. You're also playing abit of a hit and miss game this way... ideally you would want to know exactly what type of parasite you were treating for rather than taking the 'shot in the dark' approach. But, you can purchase the most common treatment products at some feed stores and a few websites. As far as external parasites, I'm a big advocate of "Reptile Relief" (don't take the directions too literally if you have a severe case of mites)
It has never failed me, and is pyrethryn free :)
