I think I figured out why out Red Knee T is not eating the worms or crickets. This morning I saw 2 black ants in the enclosure. I think it might be eating ants. I kind of panicked because we have ant bait traps in the house. Has anyone ever had ants in the enclosure? I am a little worried because we have had our T for about a month and a half and it has kept itself buried the entire time. I checked him out today and he does look bigger than when we first got him, however we have never seen it's shedded skeleton.

Remove the tarantula and address the ant issue ASAP. They will kill your spider.

Thank you! I cut a sleeve off of a mosquito suit and put the T enclosure inside of it. It's closed on both sides with clothes pins. They can't get in now! I have ant traps everywhere in the house. We usually have an ant issue every spring and the traps usually get rid of them. I am so glad I am able to run these issues by experienced T owners.

best thing is to seal off where they are getting inside your house from with caulking or vaseline and then track them back to the nest outside and slaughter the nest queen and all. you dodged a bullet you could easily have woken up to a mass of ants in your t cage carrying bits and pieces of your t off

I tried spraying the whole one side of the house once didn’t kill any ants . They come for my mealworms occasionally but never find my Ts .which are mostly in basement.

I feel so bad because we have seen ants in the house for about 3 weeks. I put down the bait traps and put ant b gone around the entrances to the house. I will keep the netting over the closure until the ants are gone. Being a first time T owner is a little nerve wrecking, but I am trying to stay on top of it. Lol I just noticed the ants today.

You have serious issues there when ants arrive!!

Never had ants in any critter setup- ants are attracted to water when times are dry and food.
