Curious if anyone on here has any ant colonies. I recently got interested and it happens to be mating season, so i caught a couple queen ants to see how it goes, as you cant buy them online in the US.

Good deal!
My sister's house has lots of Camponotus Pennsylvanicus, hopefully I can find a queen of those soon.

I've started looking into ants again. My first lot failed sadly due to something I'll have done wrong.

If I do get some more I'll get a more beginner friendly species and an ant kit so I can maintain things better.

I bought them online. Everything was fine for a while. New brood etcetera. But slowly the workers started dying. Really don't know what I did wrong but clearly did.

That's why if I do get some more I'd definitely look at having a more laboratory set up so I could get environmental things right.

I used to have a small colony of Myrmecocystus mexicanus because a friend had been nice enough to give me a spare queen he found. They did great for about 2 1/2 years, and then my landlord, during an inspection, found them and said hell no. So I gave them back to the friend I'd gotten them from. They were a lot of fun when I had them though.

I'm afraid of ants, but still like to watch "Ants Canada" I definitely recommend watching his videos to learn more about their care

Any idea what species the Meranoplus are? Love the genus, Australian species are too often undescribed.
they're meranoplus pyuri. it took me forever to get the species, I had to go on to antmaps and look up every single species in the area. not fun.

What luck, the puryi/rugosus dumpster fires are the most problematic groups in Australia:rofl: Chances are high you have an unnamed species in your care, the documented ones I know of already equal the described species in number. As of right now the diversus group is the only somewhat completely group thanks to Schodl. Do you happen to have pictures?

I am 32 years old, never owned any ants, never had any interest but recently started watching the YT channel AntsCanada. Ants seem like amazing fun but after a 2 hour nature walk yesterday I had no luck finding anything. My only concern is getting mites that spread to my scorpions and dubia roach colony. Probably could avoid this issue with captive bred ants if that is a thing?!??
