I've had her for about 4 months now. She hasn't eaten the whole time but she's just doing the fasting thing. She does stop and drink once in a while but not excessive. The substrate is dry and I keep her water dish full. A few days ago, she was curled a little but it was really cold and she was fine later in the day. I found her like this this morning. It has been really humid here lately, around 60%-70% in the house. I know they like it dry but the care sheets never say how dry.

Sounds like you're doing all you need to for a rosie. How old she? Maybe she is a he. Also, what kinda substrate is that in the pic?

I don't know her age, but she's 4.5" DLS. She was sold as a female from petco and I ventrally sexed her and posted on here. Also she doesn't act like a MM(excessive roaming and such.)
Substrate is coco coir but not shredded kind. I don't like it but she's doesn't avoid it at all so I just left it so as to not disturb her enclosure.

Mostly everything sounds fine, use the expanding brick cocofiber works better.

I know, I got the wrong kind. Maybe it's time to rehouse her.i don't think it's why she's climbing like that tho. Do I need to lower the humidity in her tank?

Slightly off topic question, but how are the T's at petco? My friend bought some exotic fish (I know, different creature entirely) from there a few months ago and they died days after purchase. I've considered going there. I'm just concerned at the quality of their smaller animals.

And nice Rosie btw. Sounds like shes in caring hands.

I personally wouldn't buy animals, mainly exotics, from petco as they don't really know how to properly care for them. I went in one day and had to tell them their red tail boa had died and not one of them at the counter knew it was a snake. Another time they had crickets in with their ball pythons!!

Yeah see thats what I was thinking. But I feel as though I'd be doing a great justice by rescuing some poor little T lass or lad from that terrible place

Guess it depends on the store but the one I got the Rosie from left crickets in her cage at all times but they kept her warm and undisturbed mostly because most employees were creeped out by and knew very little about her. Then again some of the exotic pet stores can be pretty ignorant too. I would rather deal with the breeders on the forums here

Well I suppose if I'm buying a healthy T and not one that is half near death, I don't see a problem. I don't need a sales associate to explain to me something I already know about, and I always expect them to be clueless anyhow. Anyway, just since its a place close by, I'll consider it a possibility and probably swing by there tomorrow to see how things are.

Also, she may just really enjoy simply being on the glass. I know one of my girls spends days on the glass. In fact she just came down to her hideout earlier today.

All you need to do for your rosea is keep it on bone dry substrate and provide it with a water dish. In my opinion there's no need to worry about the ambient humidity.

Do yourself/the hobby a big favor. If you're looking for CONVENIENCE and want to buy from a local pet store DO NOT buy one from a huge chain store. Use a phonebook (they DO still exist) or google, and find a smaller chained pet store that specializes in more exotic animals. Often times you will find stores with a greater selection of better cared for tarantulas. Also, the classified section here is the DEFINITION of convenience... tons of HEALTHY ts that get delivered right to your door;)

As a side note, i wanted to point out that if youre PROPERLY caring for a rosie, you will literally NEVER see it on the glass (after its og introduction to its new home)

I think that if you DO change out the sub to bone dry coco FIBER (thats packed down tightly) you wont have much problems. A question to think about is how is the ventilation? Maybe try adding more? if the humidity escapes the enclosure, it dries out a lot faster. As Shrike said, ambient humidity shouldnt really be a problem.

As a side note, a PU male often behaves A LOT like a MM. They can become very restless and wander too... all the hormones can kick in early. (not saying that is YOUR current problem...just pointing it out)

Alright, I know it's not gonna kill her but I do want her to feel at home. Home for her is a desert so I guess life in my house would be much better conditions than she's built to withstand. Ill stop worrying about her.
I used coco husk because I didn't know any better. I got the coco fiber now. Gonna setup her new cage and let it dry out real good before move her.

Glad you got the new sub, I dry it out by putting it in a tub and place on my window for a couple of days, make sure the tub has a lid so you can mix it up now and again.

This is a bit of an overstatement - most tarantulas will, at some point, regardless of how they're being kept, spend time perched on the side of their enclosure. As Pikia has pointed out, resting horizontally is not "normal" tarantula behavior - as, their burrows are constructed vertically.
