I have an adult anole that won't drink standing water. I used to just drip water onto the driftwood in the tank but I decided to try another option. I got one of those "lil drippers", a large water dish, some gravel and a rock. I filled the water dish with the gravel put the rock ontop of the gravel and let the water drip onto that. The anole won't go anywhere near it and the water dish fills up more often then I can be around to empty it. What is another option for watering without me standing there dripping water for a half hour a day?

misting the tank is an option so is using an airator in the water dish.

We have a very large tank with many green and bahamian anoles and longtail. I give the tank a good misting twice a day. There is a "pond" in the tank for a fire belly toad. I have seen a few times when an anole would take a drink from the pond, but most of the time they will drink from the sides of the tank or off the plants and such after I mist them.
Good Luck

i just dont bother to mist

There is a water dish in the cage, that’s it. When first released in to that cage, I misted it twice a day for 3 weeks and than once daily for another week. Then I just stopped. By that time they knew exactly where to find the water dish, and use it ever since. No problem. Same with phelsuma and a wailed chameleon, typical drip drinkers which don’t actually need it if given time and opportunity to learn were standing drinking water is.

What kind of light do you have.
Anoles need to see the water, ie the sun reflecting off the water drops.

Its a 15w bulb that someone attached to the screen lid so it hangs down inside the tank. I bought a pre-set up tank from the second hand store.

OK, now I see why it works for me but so often fails to others. All my tanks are heavily illuminated. For example, the anole tank is 40 by 50 by only 22cm tall, it has combined power of 65W from 1 UV and 2 PL lamps.

I am currently setting up a 30 gal for the same purpose, I currently have all humidity requirements met with a fogger, but still have not decided on heat source, lighting source, or quantity of each small lizard to make this work.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Anole Drinking

We have 2 anoles that we caught recently. In addition to misting the fake plants, we lightly and slowly mist the anoles heads (like rain) and they lick the water off their face.

They will also lick water off the glass sides if the plant placement alllows for it.

yes, it is where most fail. I use one 8.0 uv and one full spectrum. 80W

Well the tank is in the my sunroom in front of a very sunny window. But I also have one of those clamp on shop light things with the aluminum cone shaped cover whth a 50 watt zoo-med sun lamp. It hangs about 5 inches from the top of the screen lid. Then for a broad spectum light, I have one of those long plant/aquarium lights. The tank is about 4 ft. long and the plant light goes across the whole top of the tank. The tank ranges from about 65 to 110 if it happens to be a hot day and the sun is really coming in. But on days like that I don't use the heat lamp. Humidity says around 80 They have live plants, large drift wood, the pond and some largeish rocks. They seem to love it in there. lol Just throw in some crickets and that's when the fun really begins! lol

I used to have a 20 gallon long, planted tank with a trio of anoles. I originally used a mister, in a deli cup of water hidden behind some rocks. I didn't like it because it was finicky about how much water it needed to be in. Also, one day during maintenance my finger went into the center and I got a nasty shock. I didn't like the idea of one of my anoles landing in that, so I removed it. As a replacement, in one corner I set up one of those desk top fountains, so there was always running water. It was pretty, soothing, and the anoles loved it.

A low tech option I've seen mentioned elsewhere, similiar to the little dripper is just place an ice cube on the top of the tank over a plant or piece of wood and it'll drip as it melts and you don't flood the enclosure.

Though I like the desk top fountain idea, a lot cheaper than those exoterra ones.

We had one of those exoterra fountians running in the lizard tank, but it became a huge pain. It was constantly getting cloged. Sometimes a cricket would climb up in the watter tube and die in there.:wall: Then finally the pump died and I haven't replaced it. So now it just looks like a big rock in there. The lizards still take turn sitting on top of it and sort of play King of the Mountian on it.
