I've never owned a rosy myself but I've heard varying accounts in regard to their temperament. Do you think it was a feeding response bite or a defensive bite? Thanks! I actually just picked him up last Wednesday. He belonged to the husband of a friend of mine. He passed away and my friend was too scared to even open the cages to feed him, so I took him in. The very first thing he did in my care was bite the living daylights out of my hand, so his name is "Shark."
He was well fed and had eaten two days prior to the bite; it was most definitely defensive. He waited until he was in my hand before he bit. Another interesting note about the bite- he held on for a good 5-10 minutes before letting go. My experience has been that even with feeding mishaps most snakes drop your hand immediately. He didn't coil either, so I'm pretty certain it was a "Hey, I haven't been handled in weeks and I don't like that" bite. He hasn't struck since, and I've handled him once or twice a day since then. Feeding was uneventful, he struck the mouse and coiled it, never came close to my hand.I've never owned a rosy myself but I've heard varying accounts in regard to their temperament.
