An original Idea....(maybe)

Well, in the scientific/invertebrate community, I would like to be remembered as one who tried everything lol. So I have decided to try something that not many people do, even if it gets me laughed off arachnoboards! I earned a 25 gallon aquarium set up with stand recently, and while trying to determine what to put in it, and debating on what to buy...I decided that I will do the ONE thing that I have not known any other hobbyist to do...

As of tomorrow, I will be working on the first known (at least to me) Harvestman Colony...I will do extensive research on them and make an actual colony, to see if they have something to offer the Hobbyist...

I will post daily on my experiences with them, and I do hope that instead of earning mockery and disrespect, that I may inspire someone else to try this experiment...

I've also decided that I will study them extensively in the wild, to learn the things about them no one has taken the time to learn.

Hi Nivek,

By harvestmen do you mean Opiliones? I have kept a colony of these before as we used tham as part of the research in the lab i work, into scavengers found in argroecosystems. They are quite entertaining creatures, and the males will often fight each other to mate with the females. Mating can be seen readily, but i never say any of the females actually lay eggs. You can feed them dead cickets and vegetable matter as they are scavengers and omnivores. They will also predate on small insects. Good luck with the setup, and le us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Day 1

~~~DAY ONE~~~
Well, this was a bad first day! It was too windy to actually catch anything, but I did manage to get the setup done. My step-brother has the camera, but when I get it back I will get pics of the tank!
