We just lost our beatiful Tiger Oscar. Here is my goodbye to him.

Farewell to Wilbur

I recall when newly wed a gift for my sweet wife.
And many things flew through my mind for her and our new life.

I was taken back and thought it strange, did she ask for a fish?
“A fish.” I thought, “How can this be? But this was her one wish.

I took my time and found the one I thought that she would like.
A two inch Oscar is what she wants, and that one sure looked nice.

I brought him home and what began I hardly can believe
For as he grew, our Wilbur became an amazing sight to see.

He greeted us when we got home, excited like a pup
He’d squirt and splash and play with us until we were all used up.

He’d tear up plants and move the rocks until it was just right,
He’d let us pet him on the head when not in the mood to fight.

His colors changed to fit his mood, a rainbow’s colors stacked.
Happy was a light blue-green, and angry was quite black.

He told you how he liked your hair and if he liked your clothes
He’d rub your hand straight through the glass with his side and nose.

Wilbur begged for food and wagged as though he had a tail
He’d pout when you were gone too long, he was your classic male!

He’d fight his reflection and play with a ball and try to act so tough,
He hated Pepsi and anything blue and loads of other stuff.

From two inches small to over a foot when time to say goodbye
He was something I wouldn’t believe if it weren’t for my own eyes.

So I guess I was wrong, I can admit, to find that in the end,
Wilbur was not a fish at all...Wilbur was our friend.

Farewell Wilbur!
