I think the answer is that there is no "easy" or "safe" way to handle a potentially life threatening animal. Of course there are methods that are safer and easier than than others. This is why you should only handle it if you have to or if the risks outweigh the benefits ie venom extraction for antivenin.

Yeah... obviously this is written to be an aid for those doing scientific research... not so that hobbyists can "try this at home" and post pics on AB.

I wouldn't even feel safe doing that if the spider was knocked out with CO2 hehe!
