I have those pinata toys for my birds, a large one for my caique, and the smaller one for my budgies. Great toys that provide minutes of shredding pleasure!! {D

Generally they go for anywhere between 1 and 2 thousand.
The Greys are very popular because they have the reputation of being the best talkers. (not to mention that they can imitate every sound so well the you'll be looking for the phone or running to the microwave in vain.)
They are certainly not for everyone. One study says they have the intellectual ability of a human 4 year old and the emotional capacity of a human 2 year old. If you don't have patience the Grey will gladly teach it to you.
However, I have never had such a bond with any other animal in my life. (and that is REALLY saying something.)

Isn't that the truth!! He took longer to unwrap the present than to utterly destroy it afterwards.

What a fabulous bird. I love the African Greys. Is it very messy? I used to keep budgies and they could really kick up the feathers / seed / grit whatever.

Aww how sweet! My grey, Sydney, hated her christmas presents...LOL. Go figure. She is upstairs right now whistling Jingle bells....LOL. I wouldn't trade my grey for anything. You can find a good grey for around 800-1000. I only paid $800 for Syd, and it was the best 800 I ever spent.

As far as if greys are messy, I read somewhere that a grey flung sweet potatos 10 ft....LOL. The worst thing with the greys is their dust IMO. I have dust everywhere and no one believes me its from Syd. To catch her flying food from getting on the wall, I had a friend make a curtain type thing and hung it behind her cage. Works great. Any parrot is alot of work and messy, but it's all worth it.

Very cute grey!!!

I can't believe I missed this thread all together.

Your Grey has adjusted splendidly, Iktomi! What fun he's having. :) I got all my parrots some toys, too, and the Amazons loved it (especially the unwrapping part), and my Caique went ballistic. {D

Anyone interested in African Greys should seek out breeders. You'll end up saving a fortune. ;)

Messiness....absolutely. Sometime mine will huck food around just to show me he doesn't like something that's going on in the house.
Even though they take a lot of work, nothing in this world could separate me and this bird. I would have never believed it before one owned me.
You can't even put it into words.
