I'm placing this here because I have no idea really where to post it, but it was too interesting to not post. This is a dinner sized mushroom that grew near our house in the woods. Has anyone seen anything like this or know what specie it is?

Tom, Looks a little like Sulfur Shelf- Laetiporus sulphureus. Not sure, though and running full steam ahead out the door. :)

I think you nailed it, thanks. It always amazes me that someone on these boards can usually answer just about anything. I read up on Sulfur Shelf- Laetiporus sulphureus a little. I guess it's edible. Has anyone here ever eaten it?

The Chicken of the Woods

This is its common name and it is quite edible, it can nearly replace meat in a soup. But like all fungus only eat it if your sure what it is. Great photo by the way. I would love to crack that log open and look inside.
