I want to go find some snakes and turtles. It's already October and getting chilly. Think I still have some time I find some sunning themselves? I've ha success with pond turtles and snappers this year but I wanna find some box turtles and snakes. I live in Maryland. It was in the 80s today, but dropping tonight.

It's definitely not too late! This warm weather we've been having has been great for herping, although it looks like it's winding down a bit. I regularly find garters active in October. Last year I found a Northern brown snake on a particularly warm day in February. Any unseasonably warm day in winter could produce some activity. Post winter, I typically start to get out more often in March and April. I've had great success finding black rat snakes, garters, frogs, salamanders and lots of other species in the early spring months, with temps in the 50s and 60s.
