The P. rufilata lady I operated on almost a year and a half ago has passed away. The cyst like area on her abdomen came back and ended up being the death of her. She made 4 successful molts after the surgery too.
I am just glad she made it as long as she did.
RIP lil lady. :8o

Awww.... Sorry for your loss. :( You did give her quite the fighting chance though. Since she molted a bunch of times after the surgery, and I'm assuming that she molted without the cyst coming back, any idea what caused it again?

It did work out. The cyst was gone for a long long time. Even though it returned a year and a half later I still consider it a success. The cyst would have more than likely killed her on the very next molt had I not tried something.

Wow Ryan, first off I must say I am extremely impressed. I wasn't in the hobby back when the surgery went down, but after reading that thread, I am amazed and so glad that you made such a great advancement for the hobby. Congrats on doing something a lot of people wouldn't know how to go about properly or be too scared to try to do (I am one of those people). To live a whole year and a half after that hernia and the surgery is nothing short of amazing. Sorry that it did return and she did pass on, but if it weren't for you I don't think she would have made it this far. Thanks for taking the initiative and showing a lot of us that not every problem means giving up.

Wow, that was amazing! I'm sorry to hear she finally passed but you did all you could (and much more than almost anyone else would). Well done Ryan

Oh, I am so sorry, like Mack&Cass, I wasn't in this hobby when you preformed the sugery, though after seeing a reference to it in another friend I did read it shortly after I joined, and I was awe-struck with no only your dedication to go so far to save your girl but the fact that it worked, for awhile at least. I am terribly sorry to hear about your loss, she was a very lucky and very beautiful girl.

4 molts should be considered a success in anyone's book.

That fact that it came back seems like she was just poor stock/ genetics / or what have you. - all beyond your control.

props to you.

Awww, RIP Lady. She was lucky to come into your care. :(

Doing surgery on a tarantula is definately beyond me. Their blood runs pretty much free inside the abdomen. I'd be so nervous opening one up.

You gave her a good life though. I'd like to think she came back as something else.

Sad to hear she's gone dude. Still a whole extra year+ that she wouldn't have otherwise had is a phenomenal success as far as i'm concerned.

Hay Ryan,
I'm impressed to.Were you able to figure out what caused her death?Well
it's great she lived as long as she did.I was going to PM you anyway.I
remember reading thar you got some adult female A.Diversipes-A.Fasciculata
and I have a 3+ month old virgin mature male that I have no use for.My
females are to small to breed. So if you would like him PM me.
