Hi all,

i was lucky this week, with finding one of my Damon variegatus slings freshly molted.

Really a sight to behold, looks like some creature from mars... :D

Enjoy:

That´s it for today, will be back soon with pics of a species that has never been shown before.... Better keep your eyes peeled.

Did the words 'He's naked' run through anyone else's mind?

Fresh molted D.diadema
Hi Dan,

NICE!

Still waiting for my D. diadema´s to hatch, but i guess, this will still take some time....

By the way, if that portrayed specimen are cb´s from Gordon, than my D. diadema´s are in fact the parents of your slings. Got them from Gordon for breeding purposes this march...

Greetings,

Stefan

P.S. Do keep other species than Damon ssp. right now?

@Stefan

Hello again

No, my whipers are not from Gordon. These are spiderlings from a Male I did buy in Hamm some years ago and from a female from a trade fair in Zurich/Kloten.

Well, right now I have a pregnant Diadema girl at home and a pair of Heterophrynus gigantaeus, which are still not adult. Hope for breeding them one day.
And my mom is keeping a pair of D.diadema too with some youngsters.

Greetings

Dan

Hi again,

H. giganteus?

Heard about those from different people, but i always wonder how somebody is going to house the adults?

Not a too small species.... ;) :D

Good luck with those, would just love to read about a successful breeding!

Greetings,

Stefan

Well....a 60/40/60cm tank must be enough big for these animals i hope.
I`ve never seen a adult specimen before. We will see...

Hi again,

you really think so?

If that´d indeed be big enough to house them, i´d re-consider my opinion about keeping that species....

I read they shall reach whip-spans to 80cm (31,5") as adults, so i calculated a tank for them had at least to be of some 1,60m (63") size, which is way out of my possibilities....

A buddy of mine is keeping adults of this species in a 1m cubic tank. To his words it´s "just fitting"....

Greetings,

Stefan

In my eyes...I don`t believe in 80cm whipspan. Never see a span like that.

But we will see. Maybee I need a bigger setup soon :D

Hi,

sorry Gigus, just noticed i simply over-read one of your questions regarding the D. variegatus:

They´re actual some 2cm (roughly an inch) body-size, with whips stretched, they reach easy more than 10cm (4"). Somebody told me once, this kind of arachnids would be just painfully slow growing, which i can just not state from my two specimen, i take them for rather fast growing, as they have nearly trippled their size in about 2 months.

H. gigantea is to my knowledge (which isn´t too detailed...) native in south-america. Donno, if they´re cave-dwellers or not. Interesting species for sure, but given they reach the mentioned sizes, a little "unpractical" to house, to my opinion. :D

Greetings,

Stefan
