Wow, great pics. The zoo needs to hire somebody to pick that snake's nose. I assume your friend was smart enough to not get THAT close to the snake's head for the second picture. ;)

I prefer the natural coloration on snakes

EDIT: as for the freezer comment: not to long ago anyone who got a albino in a clutch of babies here killed them cos nobody wanted them. I do think thats better then to selective breeding on them like many hobbyists do today with inbreeding aso. I know they occur in the wild and the snake on the picture might very well be one of them so I didnt refer to that particular snake.

amazingly he took the pictures through the enclosure's glass. I often wonder if he takes a bottle of window cleaner and a roll of paper towels to clean the glass first before he takes the pictures.

technically albinism (hypo, hyper, insert prefix of choice to melanism) is a genetic defect. how far would such a specimen make it in the wild? being solid white and yellow as a neonate would make it impossible to hide from predators. natures way of keeping the defected genes to a minimum. now they are actually bred to show such traits, and the deformaties are embraced by would be interior decorators. not to insult collectors who keep animals like this, but none will ever have a place in my collection.

I remember a LONG time ago, in grade school, one of the upper classmen found an albino rattlesnake. We lived in SoCal, just east of Escondido, in the San Pasqual Valley, so I'm not sure what it was, but some of you may know. I remember he killed it, and skinned it on a picnic table. I'm assuming it was something he had caught near the school, and wondered how it had survived that long without being eaten by something. I think it was about 2' long or so.
I'd completely forgotten about it, until I saw that pic...weird huh?!
