So I put a fruit fly into my Jumping Spiders enclosure but I think my spider is now in pre molt so she didn’t eat it. Somehow the fly lasted 3 days without food, which is a new record for fruit flies in this enclosure. So I got unintentionally attached to the little thing. I named it Alberto.

I gave it some orange. After it’s done eating the orange, I’ll put it back into the fruit fly container to let it live the rest of its life. We love you Alberto! ♡

Had a T 'defend' a locust for 4 days before I could get it back! Locust would move away, I'd reach in with tongs to grab it back, P. sazimai would launch over, stand over it and threat pose like I had just called it's mother something horrible

So where's the problem? Compassion is the highest quality a person can possess. An intrinsic part of love, selflessly given the duo are the only things we can give which return in like measure as we give them. -from somewhere in the Upanishads.

It's not wrong for one animal to eat another, it's natural. I like cats though, my first pet was a cat, I had her for about 25 years, I personally couldn't use a kitten as a feeder for this reason, but kittens or bunnies are common feeders for snakes

That’s not what The Snark mean, they mean it’s good for people to have empathy, not that it’s wrong to use live feeders.

How will you tell which is which? If you keep using fruit flies as feeders you could just feed Alberto all over again! Then again, maybe this is a feature and not a bug (no pun intended)

Most snakes are fed frozen rats or mice. Few snakes that are hard to get feeding are fed live rats or mice until they accept frozen. Only giant snakes (Retics, Burms, Anacondas) are fed rabbits. I don't know of a single incident of someone feeding a snake a cat (aside from news stories online). Just because one person does it doesn't mean everyone does.

We are born in a world that is comprised of three natures, Birth and growth, life - burgeoning, and death and decay. Creator, preserver, destroyer. Each requires the previous cycle to come about. Every breath taken kills micro-organisms, all food eaten requires something to die. It is up to the individual what to make of each cycle.

How will you tell which is which? If you keep using fruit flies as feeders you could just feed Alberto all over again!
Happy birthday, primordial - progenitor amoeba!

We will never know 👀
I worked at a reputable company that distributed different snakes for a few years, we fed the ball pythons live mice, the bigger snakes were fed jumbo rats and sometimes bunnies. Most people at home feed frozen (unthawed) dead prey, but snakes prefer live prey of course, I recommend live prey if possible
