Anyone know the difference between Giant Black & White (Acanthroscurria theraphosoides) formally A. brocklehersti and the Brazilian Giant White Knee (Acanthoscurria geniculata)?

My understanding is that brock is now a junior synonym or geniculata. The differences are in the leg banding.

As far as I'm aware, the real A. brocklehursti is a junior synonym of A. theraphosoides and looks very different to A. geniculata whereas the species that was/is sold in the hobby as A. brocklehursti is an A. geniculata variant with slightly narrower leg banding.

Thanks for the clarity. I knew you had a grasp on them and was hoping to hear from you.

Brocklehursti was the junior synonim of A. theraposoides (brown acanthoscurria). People in the hobby just used brocklehursti name to differentiate them from regular geniculatas.

Now there is a nice mess because they where selling them like theraposoides too... which is a complete different species inside acanthoscurria genus. And to make it better, the breeders are using thersposides (without the O) to differentiate them from theraphosoides...

So hobby brocklehurstis are simply an A. geniculata color morph, with thinner banding and stripes and more vibrant red.

They are completely different Ts, simply that in the hobby the name was used to differentiate a color variant of the geniculata, with thinner bandings and stripes.

Real theraposoides
