My little A. versicolor sling molted yesterday and seemed to molt just fine. I was amazed by the pretty blue colors. Then this morning when i got up i found it had fallen to the bottom of its tube web not moving. Took it out and it still didnt move. It died :(. What could have caused this??? Maybe the environment got too dry? Im not sure but i am mixed between mad as hell and sad. :( Anybody got A. versicolor for sale? :(

Sorry! That is a bad one to lose :(

Do you mind posting how big it was, as well as how humid you kept it?

I'm sorry about your loss. I have found you can error a little on the dry side with A. versicolor slings. I put peat moss/vermiculite in the bottom of a vial, and one sprig of shagnum moss. I try to keep the sprig moist, but not moist enough to condensate on the sides of the vial. I try to feed fruit flies, termites, and tiny pinhead crickets and avoid prey that might be too large. With this arrangement I have had good success, almost no mortality. Occasionally A. versicolor slings will die for no apparent reason, other than survival of the fittest. Its a numbers game.

Its a numbers game.
Stanley Schultz says when breeding tarantulas, to let around half of the slings kill off the others, which gets rid of the weakest. Though I guess that gets in the way of profitability for the dealers. I'm sure its one reason we have Ts that just die off for no apparent reason...

Well found my C. fasciatum male dead today, was kinda expecting that one though. Appears he died from being an old man. He lived out his whole MM life in with the female and very succesfully i might add.

Also my last remaining scorpion died.

Seems im having a small die off...

On the bright side its time to go shopping ;P

Sorry to hear about your little T. :( Thats why I'm going to wait quite a while before I get one of those - it was one of the first T's I ever wanted, but I want to get it as a sling and I'm worried something bad will happen to it. I hear they are prone to dying easily, sometimes for no apparent reason. Still hard to have happen!
