A. seemani Questions

I'm still struggling to ID a tarantula I purchased at a pet store as A. seemani. I bought it almost two months ago. It is a light tan/brown all over with very faint stripes on the knees. It is not very hairy and it has skinny legs. So here's myquestions....

1. Anyone have photos of A. seemani tarantulas in color phases other than the traditional black striped? I've read that there are a few color variations to this species, but haven't seen any on the internet.

2. Is it true that A. seemani change color prior to molting? I read somewhere that they dull out to a brown color before molting, if so, how long before?

So the bigger question is, is it A. seemani or not?(no I don't have a photo). I'd like to know what this little guy is in case I'm not providing the correct heat/humidity.

It's hard to say with any certainty what it could be without a photo (or even with a photo), but as far as care, if you keep it at a moderate humidity (not bone dry, but not totally moist either) and at room temp or just above (70-80F), you should be fine as far as most species go generally speaking.

Hope that helps.

Mine is a WC T from a petstore as well. When I got it the color was a light brown in color. But after it molted, look what happened....

A. seemani will have a salmony-tannish underbelly and spinerettes, much lighter in color than the upper body and legs.

Someone should write a book or develop a website concerning the many aspects of the Aphonopelma seemani. They seem to be an interesting tarantula, especially with the different color phases.
