I have one -tenatively dubbed "psycho" - thought it was a Pink Zebra Beauty at first, but the personality didn't match...

Mine is very skittish - and has been defensive before, but not regularly. I have handled it, but only after nudging for a few minutes to make sure it doesn't spaz out.

It has ran off of my coffe table, stairs, and practically flew out of its enclosure once when i took the lid off.

Mine's about 3-3.5" - I keep it in a ~5 gallon critter keeper (large or XL - i'm not sure), with a half pot for a hide that I dug out a little. It really hasn't burrowed too much, but adopted the hide and dug it down an inch or so.

I had it in a smaller container previously, and all it did was pace around it all day - it seems to like the larger contaner.

A very interesting specimen to try and handle (or at least get out of the enclosure), but be VERY careful for the spider. Also - get a GOOD feeling for the personality of yours - ALL SPIDERS MAY BITE.

To clarify on the enclosure - it's on 100% peat - semi-moist - with a shallow waterdish. The substrate is probably about 5-6" deep.

I have had two of these pretty little things. The first was really fiesty so I didnt do much cage maintenance. She had deep substrate and she liked to dig a lot and hide. THe big beauty I have right now doesnt burrow at all. Even if I provide her with a hide she will not take it. She just likes to hang out in the same place right near her rock. She is friendly and I can handle her.

I've got two A. seemani's and I've got them on about 5" of peat/potting soil mix (kind without any added fertilizers) and they are burrowing machines. One stays in its hide all day and comes out at night while the other spends some time in her hide, but stays out in the open during the day sometimes. Great under-rated species.

Have had mine for several months, and she JUST started burrowing. She doesn't really make a burrow as such, kind of a big hole. She just likes to dig, I think! She used to be very skittish and SUPER FAST, but has calmed down and is way docile now. (Her name: ZOOMER!) Has NEVER made a threat posture or bared her fangs... she's one of my fav babies.... I love the fluffy salmon "angora" on their tummies!!!

I've got 2 adult female A.seemanni and both are very skittish. They are fine when they are in their enclosure, though "Tuesday" is very protective of her semi-burrow/hide. She's even shown me her fangs a couple of times, though she prefers to just to turn her back to me. I've tried handling them but they are really quick and want to run off the safety of my hands, so I don't try anymore with them. They can be cupped fairly easy and don't tend to struggle when captured this way. Both of mine would love some really deep substrate to dig in, but they make do by rearranging things often. I keep them on a peat/vermiculite mix that is slightly damp with a waterdish. The dish is very often full of substrate as this is their favorite area to fill in. :)

Key-oooot name! Did you get Tuesday on a Tuesday? Or does she resemble Tuesday Addams?

Actually she escaped wandered around for several days and I found her early on a Tuesday morning... I've forgotten what her other name was now, as her new name was much more fitting for her. She's also what started me using large, strong rubber bands as added security measures on all my enclosures. She escaped from a plastic sweater box about 6-7 months ago... needless to say she isn't strong enough to push it open any more. Though I've been scared several times when a bubber band expires and snaps loudly on the enclosure next to hers in the middle of the night. :D

My seemani dug a nice tunnel when I just had a piece of driftwood in there. Unfortunately I had to dig her out but gave her a nice corkbark hide. She seems to really like her setup. No tunnel, but she's dug a little ditch under the cork to lie in. She always ends up in her 3 favorite spots. One on top of the bark, one in the front corner by her waterdish and bromilade, and in her usual spot beneath her bark. All have her little silk nap mat. I keep her on peat/vermiculite about 5 1/2" deep. She used to be a pet rock that stayed hid all the time but now she stays where I can see her and she's becoming one of my favorites.

Mine is Psycho as well...I had it in a 10 gallon aquarium with 6" of peat/soil because I heard they burrowed and it didnt so I moved it to a 5 gallon with 4" of peat/soil and it burrowed immediately. It then proceded to create an infertile eggsac. After that it has been refusing food for months and it is rediculously skinny and I'm worried about her. Before she stopped taking food she was EXTREMLY skittish and one of my fastest spiders.

Most of them are great pets though, and they are very hardy. Mine is at around 60% humidity with a large water dish, I do not make any provisions to increase humidity as humidity is very much over rated.

mine is extremely docile unless you touch it. i've never had a t before so i don't want to handle it, but i wouldn't handle this one anyway b/c it is extremely FAST. when i had to change it's substrate from the reptibark the petstore guy suggested i used a ruler to nudge her into a critter keeper, after two good nudges it turned and struck the ruler extremely fast, i was glad i wasn't using my hand to nudge it. other than that i can stick my hand i the aquarium to change water and whatever and it doesn't show any aggression toward that.

mine doesn't burrow at all, it just chills out under its plant almost all the time. it doesn't move around much at all, but tonight it is crawling all over the place which is a big surprise. i don't think i've ever seen it move this much at one time before. also it can climb super well so i'd suggest having a very secure lid.

I give mine a hide, it burrows out an area under its hide but has not dug a burrow like my crawshayi or Cobalt. A little skittish and nervous but not aggressive.

"Digger" is a little bulldozer!
He has about 4 inches of substrate (peat) a water dish,
and a peat pot for a hide. He has made a burrow under the pot
and he spends most of the day at the entrance. The burrow
is completely empty, not a grain of dirt on the floor! I guess
he likes a clean house:D When he molted I was able to watch
through the bottom of the petpal:cool:
Getting the molt is another story:rolleyes:

I keep my A. Seemani in a 5 gallon glass aquarium with peat and verm for substrate. I have it filled pretty much to the top because she thought she was an aboreal and got stuck to the lid a couple times. She has a half log for a hide which i dug out a bit and she didnt do anything to it for about 3 weeks until one day she decided she wanted it DEEP! now she has dug it down pretty far and has even dug a back way out. She spends alot of her time out of her burrow now as I think she feels very comfortable in her home. I would recommend giving them lots of substrate to dig in because thats what they would do in the wild. Give them something to hide in until they decide to burrow though. And the good thing is with the way she dug i can always see her perfectly. anyways nice T's

peace

You know - i've seen mine do what looks like striking before to a paintbrush - but I don't think there is actually fangs involved.

I think it just jumped and whacked its palps on the brush - needless to say, still made me flinch a bit.

yeah i don't think they usually strike at things with fangs... when i tried to feed mine things that were a little too big it would puch it away with one of it's forlegs, or maybe strike but i don't think i saw fangs.
