I have a rose hair tarantula that climbs up glass, is that normal? Because I have not read anywhere yet that says rose hairs can climb.

Any tarantula has the ability to climb glass. That said if given the right environment a Rose will normally stay on the ground. Give it dry substrate(peat or potting soil). Give it a water dish and either corkbark or a clay pot half for a hide.

Yup, all climb glass (at some stage). I have never seen an adult blondi do so though.

Possibly too heavy for it to hold itself??

Hmm even the big chunky tarantulas {D climb glass too... interesting. I guess thats why it is important to always have a good lid on the cage.

with my rose hair A lot of time if the substrate is damp or wet, they don't like it and they climb the glass (possible to get away from it). So I usually keep it dry.

I have one that continuously climbed and would get her legs stuck in the screen - hanging upside down several times per day until I added a plexiglass lid.

Climb yes, but not on smoot surfaces. Most spiders which catch their prey in free floating webs will not be able to climb smooth surfaces.

My rose used to climb like it was going out of style. He still does it from time to time out of curiosity I suppose... But since i changed his substrate to potting soil, he spends alot more time on the ground. Roses can be very strange, and are by far the wackiest spider. Just make the substrate high enough that if it climbs and falls, it won't hurt it, and eventually it should learn its lesson and quit it. But even after the substrate change and the raising of the substrate closer to the lid, he still climbs. Seems he has confused himself with an arboreal :D

This thread helped. My new rosea is climbing the enclosure (terrifying me that she'll fall and hurt herself). My substrate is damp, so I think that's why she may be doing it. I need to add more (dryer) substrate because I'm so scared she'll fall. I do NOT want to accidentally kill my first T!
