Hey everybody! This is my mouse, Phat. I named him like that, because he is very fat. I have had him for about 8 months now (twice as long as I keep T's). I have never looked at him like a feeder, or any other rodent. He has been my trustworthy companion for a while and I would like to see if any other member keeps a little cute mouse as a pet and not only for feeding purposes.

I kept a mouse for a pet for a long time (and before that rats). I never thought Id have a pet mouse...I just sort of happened upon him. Someone actually dropped him off at the store I was working- and left him IN with the hamsters. One day I was showing someone the hammies, lifted up a house, and there was Mouse. He was the sweetest thing- so I bought him home and we were buddies until he passed away of what I assume was old age :)

I had a pair of mice when I was younger - I was ASSURED they were both female....about a month later my fat girl started squeezing out 5 baby mice....four survived and watching them grow up was fab! :)

Now we've got a pair of corn snakes my other half has to feed them - I can't bring myself to do it :(

Hey OldHag - pic of your ratty please! I've had 5 rats over the years - fantastic pets, very intelligent and so cute n friendly :)

It's illegal for us to feed live over here in the UK, which suits me fine, but I still can't do the f/t. I'm looking into getting hold of some trex snake sausages, for in case my boyfriend's away - can't let them go hungry coz of my hang ups!

Hels :)

Bless! I've never had a baby rat - they've always had hair by the time I've got them - she's so cute :D Give her a stroke and a cuddle from me :)

She still is that bald!! She has hair like a Kiwi, hense the name. She will bald in places, regrow hair, loose hair somewhere else... its hilarious. A roaming balding pattern! Shes full of personality too! VERY funny critter.

Oh cool a hairless rat, I love them.

I hear they make very bad parents though, females tend to eat their young

I started breeding mice to make feeding my ball python more economical, it was a baby ball python and I needed pinkies and fuzzies, but once the snake was big enough to eat full grown mice, I found that I could breed enough mice to sell to the pet store as feeders and pay for the mouse food and a few supplies as well. Well that only worked a few times, now I've got so many mice I don't know what to do.

It started as just a simple feeder breeding project, but when the spotted mice started showing up, I decided to isolate them and breed mice for pets. Not to popular, pet mice, even now that I've mixed in some longhaired and silkies.

I do like them as pets though, once you get one hand trained, its fun to let them explore pockets etc. Just got to watch out for the little presents they leave behind! Males are prone to marking territory as they go too, so keep that in mind.

Pink eyed white mice, from what I recall, have a genetic predispostion to obesity. That's why Stefan-V's mouse is 'phat'. These fatties especially like to dig the sunflowers out of the feed, eat just those, and bury the rest, making it look like there's no more food. My mouse Gus would do that, and he got sooo fat! He'd just push himself around on his belly, and avoided the wheel like it was some sort of torture device! He was actually the size of a small rat, width-wise...

I think my infatuation with the mice is losing intensity though, my python died last summer, but a friend bestowed a baby rattler upon me, so at least I have an outlet for the extras... So I just need to tone things down to a more managable level, pets are so much fun!

I got mine from the pet store I worked at. They just randomly got them in every once in a great while.

I have a hamster named Jabba (shes huge, twice as wide as the normal hamster) and recently I got a little brown mouse named Luke. I dont see much of Luke, he has made a tunnel system underneat the aspen shavings. The only reason I know he is alive is that his food still disappears. I feel like I got another tarantula, lol.
