Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hai....

wait, there's lots of fuzzy hair and that's a T not a bear.

Looks like an A. metallica to me, though as always the Avic genus is really messed, so you can never be sure. Still though, looks like A. metallica more than anything else.

Hey, it ain't the size that matters - it's the attitude!

Are we talking about bears yet? lol

is this the one your sending me?
Nope, I have 5 female A.metallicas not counting this one. ;P

I don't sell Ts unless they are 100% healthy and I know exactly what they are.

So how do you know you have an A. metallica? I'm just curious.

Eric
Is this a trick question? This being one of the most messed up of genera out there I can only say that I am as certain as my senses allow me to be.

Ok, not really a trick, just loaded with a bit of bait :) Since we don't know what A. metallica is, your question simply can't be answered. It's simply not possible.

If we want to be super anal about your question... then we could actually go a step further and discuss whether your spider is even Avicularia or not. Since NO ONE knows what A. avicularia (the type of the genus) is... and heck it may not even be from South America.

I don't mean to be a Debby Downer, but the "ID me" threads about this particular "group" of Avicularia really are a bit pointless right now.

It's a great group of spiders that I love, but to try and pin down names like "A. avicularia" and "A. metallica" on certain spiders right now is just not possible.... and anyone who does so can not claim to be using any sound reason.

Avics sp tend to get a little out of range here as they are the, along side with Aphonopelmas, muts of the T world.. In actuality people tend to complicate things and make you think about it more than one should lol.. "Eric, cough cough". At that size it does look more on the lines of A. Metallica so yes you can call in an A. Metallica but as for 100% dna testing pure A. Metallica. probably not.

The spider in your picture does seem to lean more towards the range of coloration seen in "hobby metallica" though (lots of grizzled white hairs and few to no red hairs)... but is not looking like some of the more extreme examples of this "form".

Ah there we go, right back down to the human sphere of reasoning. If I had a time-machine and could go back 300 years to see what Carl Linnaeus was looking at, I would. Unfortunately I only have books and these boards to help me out. Thanks for the clarification I was starting to feel uneasy about these two species. I might as well buy "A.avicularia" next time and save some money. Sorry Dan, no refunds. :}
