Hello,

We are a family new to owning T’s. I have a A. Metallica that we got in Jan 2019. He/she just molted for the first time. I was concerned about it’s molt. The full molt came off fine and I even tried to sex it (I’m still not sure and couldn’t get photos good enough for others to figure it out). The problem I see is that Orion (A. Metallica) is kind of wet. Well, today is much more dry but today I noticed a little dimple on its head. Does this mean something bad? The spider ate and is drinking and moving around but looks strange to me. Is this normal for this type of species?

Looks perfectly normal and fuzzy to me. Not sure if that “dimple” has an actual name or not but I don’t see anything abnormal. My girl has the exact same thing.

I’m glad it’s normal. New skin, looking cute all fuzzy now. I am hoping for a girl also as all my other pets are male .

I posted the molt in the gallery forum and one person said male and 2 others think I should examine better they say female.

How big is your T? If I’m not mistaken I believe MM lose their “pink toes”.

I haven’t seen it spread quite right yet but I’m thinking about 3.5” so I don’t think it’s mature yet.

The dimple you are referring to is probably the fovea or foveal groove. Not sure which term is more correct.

No, it's perfectly normal, it's the fovea or foveal groove.

Tarantulas with those dimples are usually soft in the head and don’t last long
