I'm going to place an order with swifts this friday. I was looking at the A. geniculata. I read the care sheet for them but would like to hear some opinions from you guys/gals.
The others will be, B. smithi, C. cyaneopubescens, B. vagan,

Thanks

William

I just got myself an A. Geniculata a week ago. She is about 2" and a real beauty. I keep mine on the dry side with a water dish but do mist every once and awhile. She has never passed up a meal EVER and she is relentless when it comes to eating. They are faster than what I figured they would be but that might change when she gets bigger. These are amazing looking tarantulas and they get nice and big to boot. You will love yours.

peace

My A. geniculata is about 1,5 - 2" now. I have this T since it was 0,5". It took her only a little bit more than 3 months to reach the size she is now. For me it is realy great spider :) It looks beautiful, it amazes me after each molt with the brighter colours than before... A. geniculata is very fast, mine sometimes mixes up the water drops with food and it looks funny like she is running around the whole box trying to catch these water drops :D =D She never refuses any food, eats really like a pig... It has no special requirements, it is very easy to take care of this T :) This is one of my favourite T's...
As TheDon already said, you would love yours for sure :D

They're hands down one of the best species in the trade. They are easy as dirt to care for (FEED ME!), have a great feeding response (FEED ME!), are cheap and affordable at little 1/4" termite sizes which grow to be respectable sized in a single year (FEED ME MORE!), spend a great deal of time out in the open where you and everyone can admire them (MAKING SURE YOU DON'T FORGET TO FEED ME!).

One of the very first tiny, bald slings I ever started with was an A. genic and he's now a beautiful subadult male. I've now got two more now hoping for a female, and if by some chance both of those are males, there'll be more coming :)

I have 2 slings right now that are just about .5" . They are excellent feeders. Huge appetite! I've watched my slings stand on a pre-killed cricket and eat for over 24 hours straight and swell up like a tick(I only did that once). I like mine alot...can't wait till they start to get their adult colors.

Yeah I have one nearing the seven-inch-legspan mark, it's a fiesty little bugger to say the least. It will readily flick the urticating hairs though thankfully they don't make me itch or anything. I've come close to being bitten by it and they are capable of pushin open loose lids so watch out for that!

Looks and ease of keeping they are great though.

Code Monkey summed this spider up in two words; "FEED ME!"

What is really fun is to put a dozen or so crickets in with a hungry genig (that was redundant) and watching the genich running after them all and putting them ALL through her fangs. Mine would make a huge cricket ball and then eat all at the same time. I love this spider.

I totally agree with everyone. My genic is by far the coolest spider I've had. She has two speeds, O and lightspeed (my sister thinks I should name her Warp One!). Plus she readily attacks the crix rather than waiting for them. I'm glad you decided to go for one. You'll be pleased, I'm sure. Here's my genic after a molt a couple weeks ago. She's now 3 inches.:D

I agree with CM, they are voracious eaters, demanding only in wanting more food. They are out in the open and visible all the time. A great choice for a T.

3"-4"

Hello, Swifts has them for $70(male or female) is this a good price in your opinion?, the others are 1/4 for $18.
How fast do they grow?

Thanks

Question: What is the size of the spiders for 70 dollars? Plus are you interested in getting a spider of confirmed gender or do you want to raise it from a baby to adulthood and let the gender be a surprise?

re-2

on avg. how long do the males of this species live? If males are long lived, then it doesn't really matter

I'd say that's a very fair price. Plus you get a freebie sling as well. I'd get a female if I were you. I myself have a 1/2" sling.
