My parents have forced me to sell my female 5" A.geniculata, "Fatty" this week, and for some reason, she's been acting up a lot more than usual.
Usually, she just sits next to her water dish, in the hopes that someday she may just catch those strange water droplets that come sprinkling down. But in the past couple days, it's seemed as if she's been throwing a little tantrum! She's dug up and destroyed half her cage, webbed up her log in an apparent "Hey, I'm going into premolt, ya can't send me away now! ;P" (Though the patch on her butt is still strangely pale, not to mention she just molted a couple months ago). Today I woke up to find her covered in dirt and in the process of digging up one of her fake plants and carrying it across the tank on her back. Every once in a while, the plant would slip and fall a short distance and she'd almost jump in the air as she attacked it! "Bad plant, stay still!"

I managed to get pictures. :)

"Rwarrgh!":

Tired T lays down after a tough day's work:

Teh dirtehness, oh noes!:

"Go to your room!":

Hahha..nice one =D

Too bad you have to sell her, I'd refuse promptly ;)
Yep... though I knew that I'd have to sell her eventually... I'm applying to go to a college in NYC in a year, where it's illegal to keep them, let alone keep them in a dorm room. :(

Good heavens, she is in a mood, isn't she? Some of mine get grumpy as they get closer to a moult, maybe that is her problem.
I can understand it though, getting ready to moult and actually moulting probably aren't very comfortable and they do get stressed over it. She is just letting you know she is unhappy and uncomfortable.

I'm thinking that she may not like her current hide. Maybe giv her a few more options of hide and see if she calms down. If she just molted and is not at all dark, I'm guessing it's not an impending molt. Also check for mites just in case.

Yep, I feel kinda bad for her. I just hope she doesn't stress out too much when it's time to ship.

No, it's not the hide. She's lived in that log for almost a year and has enjoyed it (seeing as she's never made a separate burrow or anything, she's obviously pleased with it). I check her and her tank every day for mites, so that's not it. The only explanation, I suppose, is that she's in premolt. A.genics grow fast, after all.

I didn't know it was illegal to keep Ts in NYC. Aren't there some people on here that live in NYC and have them? Also, I know of some people who keep one or two in a dorm room and get away with it, because they make easy pets being kept in an aquarium. Personally, I'd find another college, there are so many to choose from.

I heard about it on this site a few months ago. Still, I'm not one to take risks, and I have a specific college in mind that, I'm afraid, the desire to get into is much greater than anything else.

great sig Veneficus
Here is the list of what you can't have in NYC. Enforcement is mostly complaint driven.

Yeah, it's not worth the risk if it's a college you're really psyched about attending. If you ever get lonely for Ts Saddlepatch you can visit my gang. I've got my own miniature "Fatty", Homer :D
Best of luck on your application!!!

Thanks! :) Eep, that's quite a list of reptiles on there. Would my beloved bearded dragon be banned as well...? :( Don't see the genus Pogona on there so I'm hoping not...

Wow, I'm glad I'm not living in NYC! At least Maryland laws are not that strict.

As for keeping them in a dorm, I have kept all my T's in mine for the past year with no problem. Granted, it started with just an emperor scorp back in September, but even now with my 8 T's, three Emps, and three millipedes, I have had no trouble. Just make sure that they dont get loose, and that your roomate is cool with them. Luckily, mine was so there was no problem. Also try not to publicize it too much. A guy down the hall from me has a ferret, though, and I saw another person taking a large bird cage from his room back around the winter holiday.

Beardies are fine, no issues there. See 'em in the pet stores

NYC should be banned
hey! :embarrassed:

It's not so bad.. My uncle and cousin are cops and they know about them. They're as easy to obtain as anywhere else. I mean, come on, there's a reptile show held just outside the city, a short train ride away.
The ferret ban is a dumb one. How they got lumped into that I have no idea. Apparently if you're just passing through with one on a road trip, the authorities can still seize it :wall:
The laws need revision, but there's just not enough people on our side

Hey now, beardies are awesome. They might not have the certain "spunk" and excitement that Ts have, but they're so darn cute! :D

Yeah, some of the NYC laws regarding pets are really ridiculous, and I always feel sorry for the carriage horses... but regardless, it's my favorite place to visit.
