Atrox and Durissus are too high strung for me, but awesome animals... I do love the Cerastes though and they are on my list. Some day - I need more space. :)

I love the rattlesnake look. Especially that durissus. First time I've seen one of those.

Do you keep hot snakes in those Kritter Keepers?

Very nice pics. And I do love the look of Rattlers, but you wouldn't happen to have any Copperheads, would you? Esp. the Southern ones. Now those are good looking snakes!

No I keep all my hot snakes in all glass or glass-metal cages. There are some small spiders in those kritter keepers on the picture.
No copparheads, I like the southern best too - the lighter in color the prettier.

Wow, great pics.

I didn't mean to imply that those weren't great rattlers, Lelle, I just really like to look of Copperheads.

Are they rewarding snakes to keep? I understand that some of the large vipers are lathargic. Are copperhead the same way?

I know a lot of people enjoy keeping arboreal venomous snakes--active, great color, etc. You guys seem to have a lot of experience, any favorites?

No problem :) Coppars are nice but I prefer Crotalus
The ultimate arboreal would be green mamba but I dont have the space for it. Or the experience in keeping elapids. But some day who knows.

/Lelle,

Crotalus atrox looks great.
The male looks quite large.

I kept my little guy for about a month, then took it to a remote wash in the desert and let it go.

I couldn't get use to the idea that it could hurt me bad, or kill me.
Although there are times i wish I hadn't..

Nice snakes,

Ernie

Beautiful snakes, Rav and /Lelle. I'd love to keep hots, maybe someday. No mambas for me though. *winks*

Rav, what's the purpose of keeping your hots on reptile carpeting? Safety reasons?

Ease of cleaning mainly... and because I find newspaper ugly. :) I generally keep some baked leaves in there as a ground cover, along with a hidebox. I have too many friends who were bit because they had an elaborate enclosure setup and had to spend the first minute after opening the cage trying to find the snake. I like to be able to, in a glance, know the situation. Especially when I had two unexpectedly drop babies this year. I would have been tagged for sure going into a cage with more animals than should be in it.

Only problem I've had with carpeting so far, is that shed fangs get stuck in it... I was hand scrubbing my cottonmouth's cage and came up with a fang embedded in my finger. From now on, I use a scrub brush. :)

Wow, scary stuff. At least there wasn't a snake attached to that fang.
