That's one of the smaller species so she's in a cage that measures 48" x 24" x 48".

I did. I have found most cages on the market aren't suitable for lizards especially monitors.

Plywood that is treated with marine varnish. Then FRP is glued to the inside. The edges are sealed. The main alteration I've made since these cages is to include plastic netting along the sides to increase the usable surface area.
