Read the Tarantula Keepers Guide yet?? Stan talks about how arboreals really need no substrate. I can think of one other person besides myself that does this with a few species. The thing is that since they rarely go to the bottom what is the reason for substrate. I only keep a few species like this mostly avics, but they have done fine for a long time like that.becca81 said:Are you using no substrate in the left pic?
Yes.danielr6543 said:Read the Tarantula Keepers Guide yet??
Substrate helps keep the humidity up, which along with ventilation is highly recommended for this species. This spider has also made a web on the floor of the enclosure, which surprises me. Most that I see make their homes farther up.Stan talks about how arboreals really need no substrate. I can think of one other person besides myself that does this with a few species. The thing is you keep a very large water dish at the bottom of the enclosure. This is what keeps the humidity up, an occasional misting on the sides for drinking. I only keep arboreal slings and poecilotheria species with substrate, as they use the substrate heavily in their web homes. And like you said to keep humidity up, as for most adult arboreals there really is no need for substrate.becca81 said:Yes.

This is probably one of those side standing-critter keeper kinds. I have several avic setups of the same without substrate, just a deep water bowl with pebbles.becca81 said:This spider has also made a web on the floor of the enclosure, which surprises me. Aha! Sorry, my perspective was wrong. I was thinking you were taking a shot from the top of the enclosure, when you were taking it from the side.tmanjim said:johnx is correct. it is a critter keeper standing on end. the angle is the upper corner of the ck. after the molt, on 2-17, i transferred her into a 12 gal. glass aquarium. i will try to get some pics up soon. she is doing very good but only started a small web, still getting used to the new surroundings.
