I bought an Androctonus bicolor about 2 weeks ago. I have not seen him come out of his hide since the day I bought him. Is this normal for the Androctonus sp?

Conditons:

85-95 during the day
70-80 at night
25-40% humidity depending on the time of day

I am not looking for a speech about "This is what scorpions do.....sit, wait, eat and conserve energy"

All of my scorps come out at least once a week, especially my desert sp.

And I thought B. Jacksoni was boring......

Any with an A. bicolor and any other Androctonus sp. experience this?

I know scorps are nocturnal. I am in college and usually awake until about 1-2 a.m. still have never seen him.

He has eaten. When I feed him, he doesnt come out. He just waits until the cricket crawls into his hide and then he eats it.

FYI I predug the scrape next to the side of the aquarium, so if I look through the side I can sort of see him.

mine was VERY active. I try not to let them burrow tunnes rather just under a rock or something.

Yeah, thats what I did a little while ago. I lifted up the hide he was under and sort of built up the tunnel, and then made a scrape under some rock I bought. I set it up in the corner so he cannot burrow as far back as he was. I

When I put him back in there, he just ran around for a minute or two and then dug straight back into the scrape I made. The only benefit of doing what I did was that I can now see him when he is in his hide.

I thought about putting them in pairs, but everything I read, and everyone I talked to said they were not communal. I do not want to just keep them together to breed and then separate them, but rather keep them together all the time (Unless she becomes gravid).

They were more than communal. THe only time I had a problem is when they both were hudled up and I tossed in 2 roaches but one landed right on top of them and they both simutaneously killed it and started eating it even though there was another roache neither of them wanted to give up their kill so they just ate it lady and the tramp status. Onced they approached the end they stung each other viciously but nothing really serious.

haha lady and the tramp status. nice. I currently have a 5.5 gallon aquarium split tank, with an A. bicolor on the left and an A. mauri that was supposed to be here today on the right. How big on an enclosure did you keep two in?

two in a 5.5 gallon KK. But i reccomend a 10 gallon just in case. Mines were always huddled together like emps except when they would occasionally walk around by themselves.

I have an A. australis who never comes out during the day or when its bright out. It can be 1am but if my light is still on she won't come out. However when the lights go out, I'd say 3-4 nights a week she comes out and runs around and digs holes everywhere.

I also have a 2i A mauritanicus who does nonstop laps around his deli cup all night, I've never seen a scorp so active.

I am supposed to have an A. mauri on the way. But I have been having TONS of problems with getting it shipped, and then the way it was shipped.

Hopefully it will be here tomorrow ALIVE.

Now I can appreciate what a beautiful sp. this is!
