Here's one of the most impressive ground beetles (Carabidae) of Europe: Carabus hispanus, a nocturnal predaceous beetle with a stunning coloration.
While its scientific name (hispanus = from the Iberian peninsula) might make one believe this species comes from Spain and/or Portugal, it's actually a French endemism. Why is called so then? I dunno!
