To me, that does not look like an a avic unless it is very close to molting

Really? I was wondering, because the little fella curled up and hasnt moved since i put him back in... upright and all but his legs are completely covering his body. Thoughts? :?

are the tip of the legs curling under? If it's just covering then it's probably just hiding itself behind its limbs

then he should be fine :) perhaps just a little shy. My avic avic does that too especially during the day (to shield the sun) or when she's being disturbed.

I'm pretty sure I scared the bejesus out of him, that's probably what it is.

It's definitely an Avic of some sort. If you enlarge the photo, it's easy to see. I think it's just in need of a molt. And yes, it's probably just scared. You just got in not so long ago, which is stressful for it, and then handling also caused a lot of stress. I'd just leave it alone for a few days to let it adjust.

Curled up? It sounds like it died. When they molt, they are spread open on their back. As mindutopia said above, it is definitely an avic (abdomen and toes), it does look very blank. Was it recently bought, if so WC or CB and had it been eating?

I'm just curious, how big is your spider? Does she appear fully grown? I've kept A. avics for 2 years now, and have never seen one's colors fade that severely before a molt.

Please take a look at this thread and tell me if your avic's colors are similar to mine, as I'm puzzled as to what happened to mine.

My T's colors don't look as well defined as yours. By the way, can anyone sex the spider just from pictures?? It was just recently bought and has not been eating.

well i don't see any hooks or bulbs, so its not a mature male. but it is not possible to tell which sex by these pics. there is a little flap on the under(ventral) side that is between the forward pair of book lungs...on the abdomen side of where the abdomen and carapace meet. you need to take a close up, and clear, image of this area to have it sexed that way. the better way, is to wait for a molt, and examine the area i mentioned but on the inside of the molt. if you can take a good picture of that area, someone should be able to tell you what you have. :)

Maybe its just not an A. avic. There are plenty of other Avic species, some with that much duller color (A. urticans is one isnt it?)
