My avic's "suitor" arrived today, and boy was he eager to meet his girlfriend. :)

Within less than 15 minutes after I placed him into her enclosure, the tapping began. He slowly and carefully approached her hammock, all the while she was drumming like mad.

He coaxed her out (even though I doubt she needed much convincing), and the leg wrestling began.

I apologize for the quality of the pictures, as my hands were shaking like crazy. :8o

Have you left the male in there, or have you seperated them?

Good luck with the sack :)

{D ROFLMAO {D That's hilarious, nightbreed! I can just hear Barry White while the avics are swaying their legs. {D

Yes, the male is in the enclosure with "Blue". After the male was done with the insertions (no clue how many....but definitely a few), the female slowly reatreated back into her hammock, while the male slowly proceded in a different direction.

@bpage 10. Thanks for the well wishes. :) I certainly hope she'll give us some healthy offspring, especially since my B. smithi decided she was not gonna drop a sac but molted instead. :(

I love the way you can leave Avics together "post coitus"
Knowing that the female is unlikely to make a meal out of the male must take a lot of the stress out of pairing them up, thats one of the main reasons why Avics are going to be my first breeding project (that and the fact that I love the little black booted slings :D...I know, I know, I'm a big softie)

Good luck and take care :)

Thanks Keith, and yes, I did go out for that cigarette after they were done. {D

Here's a little update. No, no sac yet. {D (joke)
BUT....I caught the male building a sperm web and filling his palps this morning. What a sight! Or perhaps I should say "What a stud!" Gees, I guess he can't get enough now? :D

I tried taking pictures, but since he's behind a web, they didn't come out as well as I had hoped, so I apologize for the quality.

Mr. Studster is getting for round two, I believe. ;)

Cohabiting still - again

I wanted to pull up this thread because I'm beginning to wonder if/when something will/might come out of this breeding attempt.

It's been 51 days since I first introduced the male. The female last molted 8-30-05. They cohabited for 3 weeks, I witnessed numerous insertions, and removed the male for about 1 week before re-introducing him. The courtship and mating is still continuing. The female is eating like a champ, sometimes 2 crickets a day.

I've read the breeding reports on A. avicularia, and still wonder if anyone who's successfully bred these can give me any pointers.

The temperature in the terrarium is about 80 during the day, and no less than 72 at night. Humidity is high (I don't use a measuring device, but I spritz the enclosure every once in a while).

Thanks in advance for any help.
:)
