Somebody I used to work with just sent me an email saying the police shot a 7.5 foot long rattlesnake east of Austin tx where he lives. He sent me a pic but I can't open it. I'll work on that, ..if it's true, how much do you think it "was" worth to people that keep big ones?

Not sure I have seen a 3 foot DB selling for 50 though in the area.

Destroying is actually common pratice I know around here. Getting parks and wildlife to trap is almost impossible most of the time. Snake handlers are hard to come by and usually charge a pretty penny. Not that I don't blame them. If you were closer I'd suggest your friend call Mr Clint with Texas Snakes & more but as Austin their maybe someone closer. Excatly why I want to hook and tong. Relocate rather than destroy.

I know, they are dangerous but, to read some of the comments... :wall: Oh well, most people would know how to catch something like that. I would've been out there with a trash can asap. I know a few people that would've wanted that one. I hate to say it but, because of the situation and not knowing how to handle venomous snakes, the cop did what he thought was best and it prob was the best thing given the situation imo:( .

well a normal rattle snake wouldn't coast that much. I don't think someone would want to keep a 7 foot rattle snake. the biggest rattle snake Ive seen is 5 foot so. I wouldst want a 7 foot rattle snake in my house and around my other animals

Right. :liar: But ya know in their eyes they are the experts. LOL.

I love the supposed deputies comment. The agencies I know would have your butt for things like that. Admin would have a fit for wasteing their time and the potential for bad P.R. in the community. Go patrol, even if you have to just drive in circles for 8-12 hours straight, instead of wasteing your shift hunting. :embarrassed:

yep got into some folks back yard and ate their rabbit, C. atrox that size worth maybe $75. Austin is growing into the sticks and the drought is bringing 'animals' into the yards where there is water and grass
